Former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed retires from cricket

ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has announced his retirement from international cricket.

Sarfaraz Ahmed stated that representing Pakistan has been the greatest honor of his life. Winning the Under-19 World Cup in 2006 and the Champions Trophy in 2017 are among the most memorable moments of his career.

He expressed deep gratitude to his teammates, coaches, family, and fans for their unwavering support. Leading the Pakistan team across all three formats was a dream come true for him, and he always strived to play fearless cricket while building a united team.

Sarfaraz highlighted his pride in seeing match-winners like Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Shadab Khan emerge and shine.

He will always cherish the trust and support from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

He added that Pakistan cricket will forever remain close to his heart, and he will continue to serve the game in every possible way.

Throughout his international career, Sarfaraz Ahmed played 54 Tests, 117 ODIs, and 61 T20Is for Pakistan.

He scored a total of 6,164 runs and, as a wicketkeeper, effected 315 catches and 56 stumpings behind the stumps.

He captained Pakistan in 100 international matches and led the team to victory in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017.

Under his leadership, Pakistan also reached the No. 1 ranking in T20I cricket.

Sarfaraz Ahmed is the only Pakistani captain to have won ICC titles at both junior (U19 World Cup 2006) and senior levels.

In recognition of his contributions, the Government of Pakistan awarded him the Pride of Performance in 2018.
