KANDAHAR: The authorities in northeastern Afghanistan reported that the police chief of Badakhshan province, Mawlawi Mirajuddin, was killed in an ambush attack allegedly carried out by fighters of the National Resistance Front (NRF) in Takhar province.
Mawlawi Mirajuddin was traveling from Badakhshan to Takhar when his convoy came under attack. The incident occurred on a road connecting the two provinces, where NRF fighters are believed to have set up an ambush.
The incident stated that NRF fighters targeted the vehicle carrying the Badakhshan police chief. The attack resulted in his death, although details regarding other casualties or injuries have not yet been confirmed.
The National Resistance Front, an armed opposition group that emerged following the political changes in Afghanistan in 2021, has claimed responsibility for several attacks against security personnel in different parts of the country.
However, independent verification of claims related to such incidents often remains difficult due to limited access to remote areas and conflicting reports from various sides.
