Prime Minister Electric Vehicle Scheme 2026! Know the eligibility and complete procedure for applying

ISLAMABAD: The government has launched the Prime Minister’s Electric Bike and Rickshaw Scheme 2026, indicating what officials describe as a major step toward affordable, clean, and fuel-efficient mobility nationwide.

Objective of the scheme

The initiative, introduced under the New Energy Vehicle Policy (2026–2030), seeks to reduce reliance on petrol and diesel while promoting environmentally friendly transportation solutions across urban and semi-urban areas.

In this regard, electric motorcycles, electric rickshaws, and electric three-wheelers will be provided with substantial government subsidies.

The program will remain operational from 2026 to 2027 and will be available across the country.

Subsidy and vehicle details

Up to 40,000 electric motorcycles will be offered with a subsidy of Rs. 80,000 per unit. In addition, 1,000 electric rickshaws will receive Rs. 290,000 in financial support, while another 1,000 electric three-wheelers will be subsidized with Rs. 880,000 per vehicle.

The electric motorcycle category is primarily aimed at students, women, and delivery riders. Meanwhile, electric rickshaws and three-wheelers are intended for drivers, daily wage earners, shopkeepers, and small-scale transport operators. Authorities believe the targeted distribution will create new employment opportunities while lowering operational costs for low-income households.

Eligibility to apply

Eligibility requirements have also been clearly outlined. Applicants must be Pakistani citizens holding a valid CNIC and be at least 18 years of age. A valid driving license will be mandatory for electric rickshaw and three-wheeler applicants, while electric motorcycle applicants will not require a license, provided they possess a CNIC.

How to apply

Applications will be accepted exclusively through the official government portal, pave.gov.pk. Successful candidates will be selected through a computerized balloting process to ensure transparency and equal opportunity. Selected applicants will be informed via SMS or through portal updates.

Benefits of the scheme

However, questions remain about demand, implementation, and long-term impact — matters that could determine whether this initiative becomes a turning point or simply another policy announcement.
