ISLAMABAD: Pakistan summoned the chargé d’affaires of the Afghan embassy on Thursday to deliver a strong protest over a terrorist attack on a security checkpost in Bajaur earlier this week.
The attack occurred on February 16 had killed 11 Pakistani soldiers. A vehicle-borne suicide bomb struck a Pakistani military and law enforcement post, followed by armed gunfire. Pakistan condemned the assault in the strongest terms, attributing it to the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) / Fitna al-Khawarij, which operates from Afghan soil.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office expressed deep concern that TTP, whose leadership resides in Afghanistan, continues to carry out cross-border attacks. Officials noted that Islamabad has repeatedly received assurances from the Afghan interim government, but tangible, verifiable action remains absent.
Pakistan called on the Afghan authorities to immediately take effective, concrete, and verifiable measures against all terrorist groups operating from their territory, including their leadership.
The Foreign Office also made it clear that Pakistan reserves the right to take action against TTP-affiliated elements and their facilitators wherever they are, to protect its soldiers, civilians, and territorial integrity.
