WAZIRABAD : Two brothers were killed and a third critically injured when a speeding tractor-trolley crushed their motorcycle on Daska Road here on Wednesday. The victims, hailing from Rajanpur, had arrived in the city to work as daily wage laborers.
The deceased have been identified as 14-year-old Majeed Abid and 27-year-old Rashid Abid. Their younger brother, Aqib Abid, sustained severe injuries and was initially rushed to a local hospital. Owing to his critical condition, he was later shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Gujranwala, where doctors described his condition as serious.
According to eyewitnesses, the tractor-trolley was moving at high speed when it struck the motorcycle near a busy intersection on Daska Road. The impact threw the three brothers off the bike, and the trolley’s wheels ran over two of them, causing instantaneous death. The driver reportedly fled the scene, leaving the vehicle behind.
Upon receiving information, a heavy police contingent arrived at the accident site and cordoned off the area. Rescue officials faced difficulty extricating the bodies from under the trolley. The deceased were later shifted to the city mortuary for post-mortem and necessary legal formalities.
The three brothers had left Rajanpur weeks ago in search of work and were residing in a rented room in Wazirabad. Relatives and fellow laborers gathered at the hospital, grief-stricken by the sudden tragedy. Local residents expressed outrage over the rising frequency of accidents involving over-speeding tractor-trolleys in the area.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the absconding driver. Officials said negligence on the part of the driver appeared to be the primary cause of the crash. Further proceedings are underway.
