WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has once again claimed he played a decisive role in defusing tensions between India and Pakistan in May 2025.
Trump said he used tariffs as leverage to cool the crisis. In an interview with Fox News, he stated: “I stopped eight wars. At least six of them ended because of tariffs. I told them if you don’t stop fighting, I will impose tariffs. I don’t want to see people dying.”
He said tensions between India and Pakistan were extremely high and could have escalated into a nuclear conflict. “They were face to face. Ten aircraft were shot down. It was very serious,” he said.
Trump added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appreciated his role in preventing a nuclear war. He claimed his intervention reduced tensions in the region and saved at least 10 million lives.

The US president also said he resolved the three-decade-long conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia in a day and a half. He said he warned both sides that the United States would take trade measures if fighting continued.
