ISLAMABAD: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres strongly condemned the suicide attack at a mosque in Islamabad on Friday.
Guterres called the attack on civilians and places of worship unacceptable and urged authorities to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
He expressed condolences to the families of the 32 worshippers killed and prayed for the swift recovery of the 162 injured, including 29 in critical condition.
The UN chief reaffirmed full solidarity with Pakistan in its fight against terrorism and reiterated support for efforts to eliminate extremism.
The attack took place during Friday prayers at Khadija-tul-Kubra Mosque, where worshippers were targeted. Authorities have handed over the bodies of the deceased to their families.
The incident drew condemnation from multiple countries, including the United States, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Russia, China, Turkey, and Afghanistan.

US Chargé d’Affaires Netley Baker called terrorism against civilians and places of worship unacceptable and confirmed that the United States will continue to support Pakistan’s peace and security efforts.
