ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Wednesday that Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s visit to Pakistan is “a source of delight for the entire nation and government.”
Speaking alongside President Tokayev during the signing ceremony of multiple memorandums of understanding (MOUs) and agreements, Sharif noted that this marks the first visit by a Kazakh president to Pakistan in 23 years.
The two countries signed 37 MOUs aimed at enhancing cooperation in trade, energy, defense, and cultural exchanges. Sharif emphasized the importance of implementing these agreements to strengthen economic and bilateral ties.
“President Tokayev’s visit is crucial for taking our relations to a new level. We must turn these MOUs into actionable initiatives,” Sharif said.
The prime minister said Pakistan and Kazakhstan aim to raise bilateral trade to $1 billion within a year. He added that the Nishan-i-Pakistan award presented to President Tokayev reflects the close and historic ties between the two nations.
Sharif also highlighted the Board of Peace as an important forum for restoring and rebuilding Gaza, expressing hopes for lasting peace and prosperity. Both Pakistan and Kazakhstan are members of the Gaza Board of Peace.
President Tokayev praised Pakistan’s hospitality and described the country as a “reliable and trusted partner.” He said both countries share common values and traditions, and the joint agreements are pivotal for strengthening bilateral relations.
