Pakistan reveals T20 World Cup 2026 Squad, a new captain, familiar names

LAHORE: Pakistan has officially announced its 15-member squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, setting the stage for what could be one of the most closely watched campaigns in recent years. 

Salman Ali Agha has been appointed captain of Pakistan’s T20 team. The decision indicates a notable shift in leadership and signals the selectors’ confidence in a player who has steadily built his reputation through consistent performances and a calm on-field presence. 

However, the timing and implications of this appointment are already being widely discussed in cricketing circles.

Furthermore, the squad combines experience with emerging talent. Senior players such as Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shadab Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Nawaz, and Naseem Shah remain part of the setup, providing stability and tournament experience. 

So far, alongside them, several players have earned selection following strong domestic and recent international performances. Faheem Ashraf, Khawaja Muhammad Nafay, Mohammad Salman Mirza, and Sahibzada Farhan have been added to the squad, indicating a clear intent to expand the team’s depth. Usman Khan, Saim Ayub, Abrar Ahmed, and Usman Tariq.

Pakistan will begin its T20 World Cup campaign on February 7 against the Netherlands, with the tournament scheduled to run from February 7 to March 8. 

The national side will kick off its preparations with a three-match T20 international series against Australia, a contest expected to offer early insight into team combinations and strategic direction.
