QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti held a special conversation with senior journalist Sohail Warraich on Geo News program Aik Din Geo Kay Saath. During the interview, Sohail Warraich asked how it felt to go from being a former prisoner and an exiled individual to becoming the chief minister of the country’s largest province.
In response, Sarfraz Bugti said that while the reference to imprisonment was correct, he had never abandoned his homeland.
He remarked that some things are a matter of human choice, while others are determined by destiny.
He expressed deep gratitude to his leadership, Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, for trusting him and giving him this responsibility, adding that the position is also a test for him.
He said the people of Balochistan deserve better governance and development, which will require hard work and commitment.
When asked about his decision to join the Pakistan People’s Party, Bugti explained that his father had been involved in politics even before the non-party elections of 1985 and had longstanding ties with the PPP.
He recalled meeting Asif Ali Zardari in Lahore, where Zardari showed him great personal warmth, which influenced his decision to formally join the party.
Sarfraz Bugti further revealed that he has survived sixteen assassination attempts.
He said he firmly believes that death comes only by the will of God and that remaining silent against oppression out of fear is not the right course of action.
He recounted an incident in which his vehicle ran over a landmine connected to five tons of explosives, which fortunately did not detonate.
He also recalled several occasions when bullets narrowly missed him.
Bugti said these experiences strengthened his faith that the power protecting life is far greater than those who seek to take it.
