Pakistan Issues demarche to High Commissioner of UK

Islamabad: Pakistan has formally written to the United Kingdom, urging immediate action over a series of videos and online campaigns allegedly originating from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) linked social media accounts that include threats against the country’s military leadership and calls for violence.

According to official sources, the Government of Pakistan informed British authorities that videos circulating on PTI-affiliated platforms contain explicit threats against the Army Chief, including calls for assassination and warnings of serious consequences.

Pakistan has requested the UK to take action against all such accounts that are allegedly promoting terrorism, violence, and instability within Pakistan.

In the letter, the government emphasized that the content being shared is neither political discourse nor freedom of expression, but rather direct incitement to murder targeting a senior military official of a United Nations member state.

It further stated that PTI-linked digital platforms have repeatedly been used to spread unrest and encourage violent actions.

Pakistan has urged British authorities to identify individuals involved in issuing threats and inciting violence, conduct thorough investigations, and initiate legal proceedings against those responsible.

The letter also called for a comprehensive probe into PTI and its associated platforms for their alleged role in promoting hatred, violence, and large-scale disorder in Pakistan, including the possibility of decisive legal and administrative measures, such as a ban.

The government further stressed that the UK must ensure its territory is not used to fuel violence, terrorism, or unrest against Pakistan, noting that this issue serves as a test of Britain’s commitment to counterterrorism, international law, and responsible state conduct.

The letter warned that continued inaction by the UK would not be viewed as neutrality and could seriously undermine mutual trust and cooperation.

Pakistan reaffirmed the importance it places on its relationship with the UK and expressed expectations for swift legal action in this matter.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a demarche to the British Acting High Commissioner.

The Foreign Office stated that a Pakistani political party had called for a protest outside the counsletate in Bradford via the X platform, during which threatening slogans were raised and inappropriate language was used.
