Pakistan, Jordan Army Chiefs Pledge to Expand Defense Cooperation

RAWALPINDI: The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces, Major General Yousef Huneiti, held high-level talks with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Syed Asim Munir, at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on Friday, with a focus on strengthening bilateral defense cooperation and regional security.

According to a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the meeting centered on “mutual interests, regional security, and defense cooperation.” Both military leaders expressed a strong commitment to further expand the existing military-to-military ties between the two brotherly nations. The discussions emphasized the need for “joint and mutual cooperation to address the evolving and changing security challenges” in the region.

General Asim Munir reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to bolstering its long-standing defense relationship with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Highlighting Pakistan’s foundational principles, the Army Chief also stated that the “protection of minority rights is an important pillar of Pakistan’s ideology.”

The visiting Jordanian military delegation acknowledged and praised the professional capabilities and sacrifices of the Pakistan Armed Forces. The meeting underscores the ongoing strategic dialogue between Pakistan and Jordan, two key Muslim military powers, amid a complex regional security landscape. Such high-level engagements are seen as crucial for fostering interoperability and a shared understanding of common threats.

The visit of Major General Huneiti is expected to pave the way for enhanced collaboration in defense training, counter-terrorism strategies, and military technology. It follows a pattern of increased diplomatic and military exchanges between the two countries, reflecting a mutual desire to solidify their partnership.

Meanwhile Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Staff of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir visited Christ Church in Rawalpindi and attended Christmas celebrations, a military statement said on Thursday.

According to the ISPR, the visit was marked by participation in prayers and interaction with members of the Christian community. Christmas greetings and wishes for peace, harmony and prosperity were conveyed.

Tribute was paid to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, with emphasis placed on his vision of equality, freedom and religious tolerance. Protection of minority rights was described as a core principle of Pakistan’s founding ideology, it added.
