QUETTA: A grim wave of road accidents across three districts of Balochistan on Thursday claimed nine lives and left six others injured, casting a shadow of grief over the province.
The most devastating incident occurred in the Sarki Jangle area of Loralai. According to police, a speeding car collided with a motorcycle carrying a prayer leader, Ehsanullah, and his wife. The couple died instantly. The impact caused the car to overturn, seriously injuring its six occupants. Police shifted the victims to Loralai district hospital, where three more—two women and a man—succumbed to their injuries. A fourth injured woman passed away en route to Quetta’s Civil Hospital. The deceased included Mir Wali and Sajda Robina Bibi, alongside Ehsanullah, whose wife’s name remains unknown.
Separately, on the Quetta-Taftan National Highway near Dalbandin, a pre-dawn collision between a pickup truck and an oil tanker proved fatal. The crash near Dhadar Landhi claimed the lives of two pickup passengers, identified as Dilawar from Washuk and Muhammad Iqbal, who died on the spot.
Adding to the day’s toll, an auto-rickshaw driver, Muhammad Sharif, was killed in Qila Abdullah town following a collision with a speeding vehicle.
Authorities have handed over the bodies to families after completing legal formalities. The injured from the Loralai tragedy are currently receiving treatment at Trauma Centre Quetta.
These consecutive tragedies highlight the perilous state of road safety in the region, raising urgent concerns about speeding, vehicle condition, and highway safety measures. The incidents have left multiple families in mourning and communities reeling from the sudden loss.
