Asif Calls Afghanistan-India Strike Comparison ‘Wrong and Inappropriate’

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Tuesday criticised remarks by opposition leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman without naming him, rejecting any comparison between Pakistan’s counterterrorism actions in Afghanistan and Indian military strikes.

In a post on social media platform X, Asif said Pakistan’s operations targeted verified terrorist camps of the TTP Khawarij along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.

He said comparing these actions with what he described as India’s illegal attacks on mosques and religious seminaries inside in Pakistan in Bahawalpur and Muridke was “wrong and inappropriate.”

Asif said the international community, including the United Nations, remains concerned about terrorism operating from Afghanistan under Taliban protection.

He said daily infiltration of terrorist elements from Afghanistan into Pakistan provides clear evidence of the threat.

Addressing a religious cleric in Karachi, Maulana Fazlur Rehman had opposed the country actions against terrorists hide in Afghanistan. Justifying his arguments, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that India targets terror hubs in Bahawalpur or Muridke are wrong then how strike inside Afghanistan are right.

Asif said India has so far failed to provide evidence regarding the Pahalgam incident, despite Pakistan’s offer for an independent investigation.

He said a United Nations report also confirmed that India’s actions were illegal and unsupported by evidence, while Pakistan’s response was legitimate.
