Local government election, Election commissioner turns down rumors

Quetta: Provincial Election Commissioner Balochistan, Ali Asghar Sayal, has firmly rejected the rumors circulating on social media claiming that local government elections in certain union councils of Quetta have been postponed.

He clarified that no such decision has been made and described these reports as completely false and misleading.

He further stated that, according to the official schedule issued by the Election Commission, polling for the general ward members of Quetta’s urban union councils will be held as planned on 28 December 2025.

The public has been urged not to rely on unverified information and to obtain updates only from the official sources of the Election Commission.

The Provincial Election Commissioner Balochistan has reassured the public that all arrangements for the upcoming local government elections in Quetta are progressing smoothly and in accordance with the officially announced schedule.

He emphasized that preparations at the administrative and operational levels are nearing completion, including the deployment of polling staff, distribution of election materials, and coordination with law enforcement agencies to ensure a peaceful polling environment.

The Election Commission of Pakistan remains committed to holding the elections in a transparent, fair, and timely manner. Special measures are being taken to facilitate voters, including proper voter lists, accessible polling stations, and adequate supervision to prevent any irregularities.

Authorities have also confirmed that security forces will remain on high alert throughout the polling process to maintain law and order and to ensure the safety of voters and election personnel.

Officials further stated that strict action will be taken against individuals or groups found spreading misinformation with the intent to confuse the public or disrupt the electoral process.

Voters have been urged to participate actively in the democratic process and to seek information only from verified and official sources.

The Election Commission has reaffirmed its resolve to uphold the integrity of the electoral process and ensure that every eligible vote is counted fairly.
