COLOMBO: Some media outlets have claimed that the Charith Asalanka can be removed from captaincy of the Sri Lankan national team.
An international cricket website has claimed that Charith Asalanka , on account of leaving the tour to Pakistan incomplete, could be removed from the captaincy of the team.
The report claims that the Sri Lankan Cricket Board did not like Asalanka’s decision of returning to the country between Sri Lanka’s tour to Pakistan.
The report claims that an advisory along with a warning was issued by the Sri Lankan Cricket Board to the players that any player, leaving the tour incomplete, could be suspended for two years.
The advisory was issued when the manager of the Sri Lankan team had disclosed that the Sri Lankan players want to return to their country on account of the militant-attack in Islamabad.
However, the team reverted the decision after the assurance given by Mohsin Naqvi, the Interior Minister and the Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board.
However, Asalanka left the tour right just before the Tri-Nation T20 Series and went back to his country.
Now, a cricket website has disclosed that the Sri Lankan Board aims to punish Charith Asalanka for his decision.
Accoring to the report of the website, his performance in the T20s in the recent times has also been poor.
However, Upul Tharanga, the Chief Selector of the Sri Lankan Cricket Board, has denied such claims.
He has said the T20 World Cup is just round the corner. We cannot afford to make changes on the large scale in the team.
We have not yet decided whether or not to remover Asalanka from the captaincy.
Remarking on Asalanka’s decision of leaving the Pakistan’s tour, Tharanga said that he was having a viral fever and a body-ache so he decided to return home.
