Ali Tareen cuts ties with Multan Sultans

ISLAMABAD: Ali Tareen, owner of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Multan Sultans, has announced his departure from the team.

He shared the decision through a message addressed to fans on the social media platform X.

In his statement, Ali Tareen said that being part of the Multan Sultans was one of the greatest honours of his life.

He expressed his deep affection for the fans, the team, and the opportunity to represent South Punjab ,something his late uncle Alamgir Tareen always took great pride in.

Ali Tareen added that every season he reminded his players and staff what it truly means to represent this region, a place where people work hard, fight for their rights, and face challenges every single day.

He often told the squad that fans may forgive defeat, but they would never forgive a lack of effort.

This belief, he said, shaped everything the franchise did both on and off the field.

Reflecting on the journey, he said that despite facing financial losses year after year, he never once thought of walking away.

For him, Multan Sultans was always more than numbers, and he was willing to do whatever it took to protect the team.

Ali Tareen stated that although he knows not everyone likes him, he has always been truthful and outspoken.

He explained that he has never learned how to “play it safe” or follow orders blindly

traits he simply does not possess.

If staying with the team meant compromising on his principles, then there was only one choice he could make.

He said he would rather lose the team standing on his own feet than run it by bending his principles. “So this is goodbye,” he wrote.

He told the fans that Multan Sultans belongs far more to them and to South Punjab than to any owner.

He urged supporters to back whoever takes charge next with the same passion.

Ali Tareen added that fans will still find him sitting among them in the stands, cheering for the team just like any supporter.

It is worth noting that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently issued a notice to Ali Tareen, accusing him of breaching contractual terms and running a campaign that allegedly damaged the reputation of the PSL.

Tareen, however, publicly tore up the legal notice.
