QUETTA: In a significant move towards modernizing law enforcement, the Balochistan Police and the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tuesday to foster cooperation in the field of modern technology. The signing ceremony was held under the chairmanship of Balochistan Inspector General of Police (IGP), Muhammad Tahir.
The landmark agreement is poised to inject new strength into the province’s policing initiatives, particularly in the realms of smart policing, digital record management, and the implementation of modern IT solutions aimed at enhancing public facilitation.
IGP Muhammad Tahir, addressing the occasion, termed the MoU a crucial step forward in the ongoing mission of police reforms and digital system improvement within Balochistan. He expressed confidence that the technical expertise and proven experience of the PITB would enable the effective implementation of advanced technology into the Balochistan Police system.
“This collaboration will not only significantly improve the operational performance and efficiency of our force but will also open up new and innovative avenues for public service,” the IGP stated. He emphasized that this partnership marks a positive and transformative development for the future of policing in the province, aligning it with 21st-century standards.
The ceremony was attended by a high-level delegation from the Balochistan Police, reflecting the importance of the initiative. Key officials present included Additional IGP Javed Ali Mehr, Additional IG & Commandant BC Muhammad Ashfaq, several DIGs representing headquarters, Quetta, Highway, Finance, and Special Branch, and AIG IT Najeebullah Pandrani. The PITB was represented by its Directors, Rai Rashid and Usman Ali.
Meanwhile in a related but seperated development Frontier Corps (FC) Balochistan (North) held a grand passing-out parade for its 68th Ladies Batch in Quetta, where 89 women completed their training and formally joined the force.
The ceremony began with a warm welcome for the Guest of Honour, the Corps Commander Balochistan. The newly inducted women were hailed as a source of pride for both Balochistan and Pakistan, and as role models for young women across the province.
