QUETTA: In a significant move to accelerate economic development, the Balochistan government has officially approved the Bostan Special Economic Zone SEZ Council. The decision was finalized during the 8th meeting of the Board of Directors of the Balochistan Board of Investment and Trade (BBoIT), presided over by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti.
The newly established council is strategically designed to strengthen coordination between the provincial government and Chinese investors, with a specific focus on enhancing projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework. The meeting, attended by Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan, BBoIT Vice Chairman Bilal Khan Kakar, CEO Qaim Khan Lashari, and other senior officials, resulted in several key decisions aimed at revitalizing the province’s investment landscape.
Chief Minister Bugti reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to creating a secure and investment-friendly environment. He described the Bostan SEZ as a “cornerstone of Balochistan’s industrial future,” asserting that the activation of such economic zones is critical for job creation and boosting the local economy.
“We are committed to making Balochistan a hub for sustainable investment and inclusive development,” the Chief Minister stated, emphasizing that sustainable investment is the key to the province’s long-term progress.
To ensure the BBoIT is equipped for this mission, the board approved measures for structural rationalization, including the removal of redundant positions to enhance institutional efficiency and the ratification of the newly appointed CEO. The meeting concluded with a unanimous commitment from all attendees to strengthen efforts for attracting both national and international investment, underpinned by a pledge to utilize the province’s natural resources transparently and modernly to achieve economic self-sufficiency.
Meanwhile the Balochistan’s government has imposed a three-day ban on public transport across the province from November 12 to 14.
The provincial Home Department announced that all intercity and interprovincial public transport services will remain suspended during the period. The measure, the government said, has been taken to ensure security and maintain public order.
