DERA MURAD JAMALI: Following torrential rains and a growing flood threat in Punjab, authorities have issued a high alert in Balochistan as floodwaters are expected to enter the region through the Guddu Barrage. The provincial government has activated emergency protocols to prepare for the potential inundation of several districts.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has set up a monitoring camp at the Commissioner’s Office in Dera Murad Jamali to closely track the evolving situation. All relevant departments have been ordered to remain on standby.
According to the details, the floodwater from Punjab is expected to reach Sindh, with the Guddu Barrage facing an inflow of millions of cusecs. This poses a significant risk to areas like Nasirabad, Jafarabad, Osta Muhammad, Sohbatpur, and Jhal Magsi. Local authorities are deeply concerned about the potential for widespread flooding.
In response to this growing threat, Balochistan’s Chief Minister, Sardar Sardar Faraz Bugti, has ordered the establishment of a monitoring camp at the Commissioner’s Office. The Director General of PDMA, Jehazeb Khan, is overseeing the situation and ensuring timely responses from relevant departments.
In an effort to assess and prepare for the likely floodwaters, senior officials from Balochistan’s Irrigation Department visited the Guddu Barrage and Kashmore areas to devise a strategy for dealing with the expected flood. Authorities are particularly concerned about the water flow into the Pat Feeder Canal and Kachhi Canal, which could submerge critical districts like Dera Bugti, Sohbatpur, Jafarabad, Osta Muhammad, Jhal Magsi, and Nasirabad.
