ISLAMABAD: Following the appointment of Justice (Retired) Arshad Hussain Shah as Chairman of the Inquiry Commission on Enforced Disappearances, notable progress has been made in resolving pending cases.
According to an official statement, the federal government has reconstituted the commission. In July alone, after Justice Shah assumed office, 70 cases were resolved, while 15 new complaints were registered.
The commission has received a total of 10,607 cases related to alleged enforced disappearances. As of 21 July 2025, 8,777 of these cases have been concluded.
The newly appointed members include Justice (Retired) Nazar Akbar for Sindh, Justice (Retired) Amanullah Yasinzai for Balochistan, and Retired Judge Muhammad Bashir for Islamabad.

For Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Justice (Retired) Syed Afsar Shah has been appointed to handle cases of alleged enforced disappearances in the province.
