DSP Among Martyrs as Police Repel Terror Assault in Hangu; 22 Injured

HANGU: In a brazen attack on Wednesday night, terrorists targeted a police check post in the Khazina Banda area of Hangu district, resulting in the martyrdom of seven security personnel, including a senior officer.

 

According to District Police Officer (DPO) Tariq Habib, the assailants launched a fierce assault on the Khazina Banda check post, catching the law enforcement officials off guard in the initial volley. Among those who embraced martyrdom was DSP City Diyar Khan, a seasoned officer known for his counter-terrorism efforts in the region.

 

The attack also left 22 police personnel wounded, including DSP Mujahid Hussain, who sustained injuries during the exchange of fire. All injured were promptly shifted to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment. Hospital sources described the condition of several wounded as stable, while others remain under close observation.

 

Despite the heavy initial casualties, police forces regrouped swiftly and retaliated with overwhelming firepower. DPO Tariq Habib confirmed that security forces killed eight terrorists in the ensuing gun battle, while six others sustained injuries. The injured militants were reportedly taken into custody for interrogation.

 

“The response was vigorous and immediate. Our personnel showed exemplary courage in the face of adversity,” DPO Habib stated. He further affirmed that the operation against terrorist elements in the area will continue until the region is completely cleared of militant threats.

 

Authorities have cordoned off the surrounding areas and launched a combing operation to track down any fleeing accomplices. The martyrdom of seven brave officers has sent shockwaves through the district, with locals and officials alike condemning the attack.
