QUETTA: Balochistan’s tourism landscape is at a development stage; Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan held a high-level meeting with Hasan Azhar Hayat, Managing Director of Green Tourism Pakistan.
The meeting focused on joint initiatives to promote sustainable, inclusive, and eco-friendly tourism across the province. During the session, Chief Secretary Khan underlined Balochistan’s vast yet underexplored tourism potential, pointing to its rich cultural heritage, historical landmarks, serene coastline, and untouched natural beauty.
He stressed the importance of positioning the province as a competitive destination for both domestic and international travelers.
In such a scenario, Hasan Azhar Hayat shared Green Tourism Pakistan’s national vision, which aims to make tourism more accessible, environmentally sustainable, and economically beneficial for local communities.
He mentioned the positive impact of current initiatives that are already stimulating local economies and encouraging responsible development models.
Furthermore, both parties agreed on the critical need for upgraded infrastructure, enhanced security, and service standards that align with international expectations. Chief Secretary Khan also focused on the importance of a cohesive national tourism policy, stating that tourism could serve as a “powerful engine” for economic growth and foreign exchange generation.

In this sense, an important focus of the meeting was the shared commitment to changing the Hinglaj Mata Mandir into an international religious tourism site. The revered Hindu pilgrimage destination, which already attracts hundreds of thousands of devotees annually, will soon benefit from improved visitor facilities, preservation measures, and cultural promotion efforts.
