ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has summoned a meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) tomorrow, which will be attended by key federal ministers and senior military leadership.
The meeting will focus on several critical matters, including the growing tensions between Iran, Israel, and the United States, as well as the overall regional situation and Pakistan’s internal and external security.
The timing of this high-level meeting is particularly significant, coming shortly after the United States launched missile strikes targeting three Iranian nuclear sites using B-2 bomber aircraft.
Just two weeks ago, diplomatic talks were underway between Iran and the US regarding nuclear weapons, when Israel launched an attack on Iran’s military and defense installations.
Since then, both countries have been engaged in a series of drone and missile strikes over the past ten days, resulting in severe damage to government buildings and residential areas, along with hundreds of casualties and injuries on both sides.
According to reports, Israel had repeatedly urged the US to strike Iran, and both American and British media had indicated that an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities was imminent.
However, US President Donald Trump had issued vague and ambiguous statements on the matter.
Eventually, the US deployed an aircraft carrier to the Pacific and launched an operation last night named “Midnight Hammer,” during which three Iranian nuclear sites were targeted with missile strikes.
In response, Pakistan strongly condemned the attacks.
