CHITRAL: Rescue officials have recovered the body of a paraglider who went missing during a flight in Upper Chitral district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials said on Friday.
The paraglider, identified as Asif Mehmood, a resident of Islamabad, had been missing since Thursday after taking off from Ziani Pass in Upper Chitral.
According to Rescue Upper Chitral, Asif took off from Ziani Pass and was expected to land at Buni Qaqlasht. However, he instead flew towards Lower Chitral, after which contact with him was lost.
The district administration launched a search operation soon after receiving information about his disappearance.
Rescue officials said teams located his body in a pasture in the Oveer Valley of Upper Chitral during the search operation.
Officials said the paraglider had crossed towards Lower Chitral but crashed in a pasture near Oveer village.
His body was shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Buni for legal formalities. It will be handed over to his family after completion of the necessary procedures.
Asif had travelled to Upper Chitral with other companions for paragliding. The district is known as a popular paragliding destination and attracts enthusiasts from across Pakistan.
