ISLAMABAD: The Senate on Thursday held a detailed discussion on the recent terrorist attack on a school bus in Khuzdar, which claimed the lives of innocent children and shocked the nation. Lawmakers unanimously condemned the incident, attributing it to Indian-backed proxies, and called for firm action both domestically and diplomatically.
Opening the debate, former caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar said the attack was carried out by Indian proxies following a strategic defeat inflicted on them by Pakistan’s armed forces.
He warned that the extremist policies of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) not only threaten regional stability but also endanger global peace. Kakar also drew attention to the continued persecution of minorities, particularly Muslims, in India.
Senator Shahzaib Durrani termed the attack a “cowardly act” by India after failing to confront Pakistan militarily. He urged the international community to take immediate notice of India’s involvement in cross-border terrorism.
Calling for a proactive response, Senator Faisal Vawda emphasised the need to increase the defence budget in light of India’s aggressive posture.
The Ruling party Senator Irfan-ul-Haque Siddiqui accused India of providing arms and funding to terrorist groups operating within Pakistan. He called for a zero-tolerance approach, stating, “These terrorists deserve no mercy and must be eliminated.”
Senator Sherry Rehman said the Khuzdar tragedy has deeply aggrieved the nation and underscored the growing threat posed by India’s belligerence. “The international community must recognize India’s role in destabilizing the region,” she said.
Awami National Party Chief Senator Aimal Wali Khan stressed the urgent need for implementing the National Action Plan (NAP) against terrorism in its entirety to counter both internal and external threats effectively.
Earlier, the House offered fateha (prayers) for the innocent souls martyred in the tragic attack, expressing solidarity with the bereaved families.
