LAHORE: Tensions appear to be brewing within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ranks after Aleema Khan, sister of the party’s founder Imran Khan, revealed that a recent meeting between senior PTI leaders and Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi took place without the knowledge of the founding family.
According to Aleema Khan, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi met with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. She stated that no member of the Khan family was present at the meeting, nor were they informed about it beforehand.
“Our family had no knowledge of this meeting, and no family member was present in the meeting,” Aleema Khan asserted, raising questions within the party ranks about the nature and timing of the political engagement.
However, the PTI leadership has confirmed the meeting, while rejecting any notion of secrecy or impropriety. In a conversation with Geo News, Central Secretary Information for PTI, Sheikh Waqas Akram, acknowledged that Barrister Gohar and Chief Minister Sohail Afridi did indeed meet Mohsin Naqvi.
Akram provided specific details, stating that the meeting took place on May 14. He clarified that the discussions were strictly focused on administrative and security-related issues.
“The meeting took place on May 14. Issues related to law and order were discussed in the meeting,” Sheikh Waqas Akram told Geo News. He also echoed Aleema Khan’s assertion that no family member of the PTI founder was present, adding that the session was purely official in nature.
The divergent statements come at a critical time for the embattled opposition party, with Imran Khan currently incarcerated. The conflicting accounts regarding the family’s awareness of the meeting are likely to fuel further speculation about internal coordination and decision-making within the party’s leadership structure.
