BANNU: Two siblings were killed after unidentified gunmen entered a house and opened fire in northwestern Pakistan’s Bannu district, police said.
The incident took place in Khani Killa Noorar area of Bannu, according to preliminary information. The victims were siblings — eight-year-old Naveed and 14-year-old Aqsa.
Police said the attackers fled the scene after the shooting. A case was being registered against the unidentified assailants, after which investigators would begin a formal probe.
The latest killings come amid a series of reported attacks targeting women and children in Bannu in recent months.
Recent killings in Bannu
On June 25, unidentified gunmen allegedly stormed a house in Shabri Bhart area within the jurisdiction of Kaki police station and killed five people, including a woman and two children.
Two other people, including a girl, were also wounded in the attack, according to police.
Similarly, three days before the latest incident, a woman was shot dead following a dispute reportedly triggered by a dog barking.
According to the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), the incident occurred in the Ghoriwala police station area. Police arrested two key suspects, identified as Shifa Ali and his son Gulab, and recovered two Kalashnikov rifles from their possession.
Other recent killings in KP
Meanwhile, a police officer was killed in a shooting in Peshawar’s Maryamzai area on Friday. The officer, identified as Farooq Shah, was attacked by unidentified assailants, according to police.
On the same day, a separate shooting in Khyber district left one person dead and two others wounded after two groups exchanged fire over a domestic dispute, police said.
In addition, an unidentified gunman opened fire on a vehicle in Farsh area of Bajaur district’s Khar tehsil on Thursday, killing one person and wounding another.
Police identified the deceased as Bahadur and the injured man as Faraz.
The latest incidents highlight continuing concerns over violent crime and attacks on civilians in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where authorities have faced both security threats and a series of targeted killings in recent months.
