GUJRAT: Prominent religious scholar Maulana Talha Rizvi was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Shadiwal area of Gujrat, police said.
According to police, Rizvi was reciting the Quran at a madrassa on the previous day when unidentified armed men opened fire on him. He sustained serious gunshot wounds and was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
However, he later succumbed to his injuries, police said.
Following the incident, police registered a case over the killing and launched an investigation to identify and arrest those responsible.
Police said investigators were examining different aspects of the incident, while efforts were underway to apprehend the suspects as soon as possible.
