Trump-Xi Talks to Focus on Hormuz, Iran Ceasefire

BEIJING: China has confirmed that tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and the ongoing Iran-US ceasefire will be key topics during the upcoming meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump in Beijing later this month.

According to a statement issued by China’s ambassador to the United Nations, Beijing considers the Iran-US ceasefire situation and concerns over the possible closure of the Strait of Hormuz among its most urgent diplomatic priorities.

The ambassador stated that both issues are expected to dominate discussions during the high-level summit scheduled for May 14 and 15, 2026, in Beijing.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most strategically important oil shipping routes, and any disruption in the waterway could significantly impact global energy supplies and international markets. Rising tensions in the Middle East have increased international concern over regional stability and maritime security.

The meeting between Trump and Xi is also expected to cover bilateral relations, trade disputes, economic cooperation, and broader geopolitical developments. Analysts believe the talks could play a major role in shaping future US-China engagement amid growing global uncertainty.

The Beijing summit will mark one of the most closely watched diplomatic meetings of the year, as both powers seek to address international security concerns alongside economic and political challenges.
