ISLAMABAD: A major development in Pakistan’s maritime history has taken place at Karachi Port, where a fully transshipment general cargo vessel has anchored for the first time, marking a new milestone.
According to the Karachi Port Trust (KPT), the ship arrived carrying various types of cargo, which is being seen as a significant achievement for Pakistan’s maritime and trade sectors.
Minister for Maritime Affairs, Junaid Anwar, stated that the arrival of this transshipment general cargo vessel is a major breakthrough for the country’s shipping industry.
He noted that in the past, only container transshipment was handled at Karachi Port, but now opportunities have expanded with the handling of general cargo, bulk, break-bulk, and vehicles.
He further added that Karachi Port is rapidly transforming into an important regional transshipment hub, and its role in connecting global trade routes has become even stronger.
This marks the first time a fully transshipment cargo vessel has arrived at Karachi Port in Pakistan.
