Three-Month Summer Vacation Challenged in Lahore High Court

LAHORE: The Punjab government’s decision to grant a three-month summer vacation in educational institutions has been challenged in the Lahore High Court.

The petition, filed by the All Pakistan Private Schools Association, is scheduled for a hearing tomorrow before Justice Khalid Ishaq.

The Government of Punjab and the Punjab School Education Department, among others, have been named as respondents in the case.

According to the petitioner, the Punjab government issued a notification closing educational institutions for three months for summer break, a move that will severely impact students’ education.

The petition highlights that the academic year in Pakistan has already shrunk to just 120 days, whereas major countries like the United States and England maintain an academic year spanning 230 days. The petitioner maintains that no society can progress without education.

The court has been requested to declare the three-month closure notification null and void, and to order the government to reduce the summer vacation to a duration of six to eight weeks.
