Gas to be supplied from 5 AM to 10 PM in Balochistan

KARACH: Measures are underway to ensure uninterrupted gas supply in Sindh and Balochistan during the winter season.

According to Sui Southern, the Director General (Gas) has instructed that gas be supplied in both provinces from 5 AM to 10 PM. Sui Southern stated that areas facing low gas pressure will be clearly identified in the daily morning briefing, and the issue must be addressed promptly.

The company added that in case of negligence, action will be taken against the concerned zonal head.

Gas supply in Balochistan has long been affected by extreme winter temperatures, outdated pipeline infrastructure, and the vast geographical spread of sparsely populated districts.

During winter, demand for domestic gas rises sharply, especially in colder regions like Quetta, Ziarat, Kalat, and Zhob, causing pressure drops and irregular supply.

Despite being a major producer of natural gas for Pakistan, many areas in Balochistan still face chronic shortages due to limited distribution networks, leakage issues, and challenges in maintaining pipelines in mountainous regions.

To improve the situation, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) issues seasonal schedules, increases monitoring, and prioritizes supply to domestic consumers during peak winter hours.

The government has also directed stricter supervision of low-pressure zones and timely repair work to prevent disruptions.

However, the province continues to demand greater investment, fairer allocation of resources, and expansion of pipelines to ensure stable and equitable gas availability for its residents.
