Strong winds and storms will close the motorway

Heavy traffic was temporarily suspended on a section of the M-5 Motorway on Tuesday after strong winds caused high-voltage transmission lines to collapse onto the roadway.

The incident occurred near kilometer marker 510 on the M-5 Motorway, where transmission wires fell across the road due to a severe windstorm. The fallen power lines created a potential safety hazard for motorists and affected the flow of traffic on the route.

The spokesperson said that entry for northbound vehicles from Rohri and Pano Aqil had also been temporarily suspended to ensure the safety of travelers and facilitate clearance operations.

In this regard, the motorway Police officials immediately initiated traffic management procedures and diverted vehicles to alternative routes. The traffic is currently being redirected through designated diversion points at Iqbalabad and Guddu, allowing motorists to continue their journeys while avoiding the affected section of the motorway.

Meanwhile, weather authorities have forecast further unstable weather conditions across various parts of the country over the next two to four hours. Rainfall and hailstorms are expected in several regions, raising concerns about additional weather-related disruptions to transportation and public infrastructure.

Efforts are underway to remove the fallen transmission lines and restore normal traffic flow. Authorities have not yet announced a timeline for the full reopening of the affected motorway section but stated that public safety remains their highest priority.
