Statement claims banned JAAC postponed long march due to lack of public support, rejects negotiation reports

MUZAFFARABAD: The statement released claimed that reports suggesting the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) postponed its proposed long march due to negotiations are “baseless” and do not reflect the actual situation.

In this regard, the decision to delay the planned protest stemmed from what it described as the organization’s inability to secure sufficient public support and mobilize participants.

The statement alleged that the proposed long march failed to generate the level of public backing required to launch a large-scale movement.

It further claimed that JAAC currently lacks the organizational capacity, resources, and public momentum needed to proceed with such a campaign.

In this sense, the determination of state institutions to deal firmly with violent and disruptive elements also mentioned the weaknesses of the proposed protest movement.

However, no independent evidence was provided to support these claims.

The statement further alleged that, instead of acknowledging what it described as a lack of public support, JAAC and its supporters have attempted to promote an alternative narrative suggesting that the long march was postponed due to negotiations or the possibility of an agreement with relevant stakeholders.

It also claimed that such reports are being circulated by what it described as a small number of “unreliable” individuals and social media accounts that allegedly lack public representation or any legal mandate to conduct negotiations.

The statement did not identify the individuals or accounts it referred to.

As of the filing of this report, JAAC had not publicly responded to the allegations contained in the statement, and no independent confirmation was immediately available regarding the reasons behind the postponement of the proposed long march.

The claims contained in the statement could not be independently verified.
