SAMARKAND: Pakistan’s Senator Agha Shahzaib Durrani chaired a high-level session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians 2026 in the historic Uzbek city of Samarkand.
The international gathering brought together young lawmakers and parliamentary delegations from more than 75 countries, providing a platform to discuss challenges facing younger generations and the role of young legislators in building more inclusive and sustainable societies.
During the session, Senator Durrani led discussions among parliamentarians from diverse regions, highlighting the need for greater youth representation in political decision-making and stronger cooperation among parliaments worldwide.
Moreover, the Samarkand conference enabled young lawmakers to exchange views, expand parliamentary networks and explore joint approaches to emerging global challenges.
Durrani’s role as session chair also underscored Pakistan’s engagement with the IPU and its participation in international parliamentary diplomacy, particularly on issues related to youth leadership and political participation.
The conference concluded with a renewed call for translating the concerns and aspirations of younger generations into meaningful political participation, effective policymaking and concrete action.
