MUZAFFARABAD: Azad Kashmir Police spokesperson SSP Khawar Ali Shaukat has said that the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) carried out violent activities in Azad Kashmir (AJK), damaging public property and attacking security forces.
Addressing a press conference, SSP Khawar Ali said the banned group was seeking to undermine the state and its institutions. He accused its members of using children and civilians as shields and said the group was operating on what he described as a specific agenda.
He said the state would take action in accordance with the law wherever its writ was challenged.
The police spokesperson further said that members of the banned committee abducted eight highway police personnel, subjected them to violence and threatened their families. He claimed that the group had adopted what he called a violent and disruptive approach over the past four years, with the alleged objective of disturbing peace and weakening state institutions.
SSP Khawar Ali said violence would not be tolerated and warned that the state’s restraint should not be mistaken for weakness.
He also said the people of AJK had rejected the banned Awami Action Committee and chosen the democratic path through elections. According to him, the electoral process helped restore the writ of the state and was completed in a transparent manner.
