ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet on Thursday to determine the sighting of the crescent for Rabi Al-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic calendar, the Ministry of Religious Affairs said.
The month of Rabi Al-Awwal holds particular significance for Muslims as the 12th of the month is observed as Mawlid Al-Nabi (PBUH), commonly known as Eid Milad-un-Nabi in Pakistan and several other Asian countries.
Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, will participate in the zonal moon-sighting committee meeting in Islamabad. Other members of the central committee will attend meetings at designated provincial and district centers.
According to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad will announce the final decision regarding the sighting of the crescent after receiving reports from the relevant committees across the country.
The 12th of Rabi Al-Awwal is traditionally marked with religious ceremonies and events across Pakistan. The day usually begins with a 31-gun salute in Islamabad and a 21-gun salute in the provincial capitals.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs also holds its annual Seerat-un-Nabi Conference on the occasion, bringing together religious scholars and experts to discuss the life, teachings and legacy of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), as well as their relevance to contemporary society.
Various religious gatherings, conferences and events are also organized nationwide, where scholars highlight the teachings and character of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and their importance in promoting moral values and strengthening social harmony.
