Roberto Carlos Embraces Islam, Turkish Media Claims

BRASILLIA: Reports have emerged claiming that legendary former Brazilian footballer Roberto Carlos embraces Islam.

The claim was made by Ali Şahin, a member of parliament from Turkey’s ruling party, citing a prominent leader of Brazil’s Muslim community. According to Şahin, during a meeting with representatives of the Brazilian Muslim community in São Paulo, Sheikh Jihad Hammadeh shared that Carlos had been in touch with him for some time.

Reportedly, the 53-year-old former star visited the Islamic leader about four weeks ago, where he recited the Shahada and embraced Islam.

Taking to social media to share the news, the Turkish lawmaker congratulated Carlos and prayed for peace, health, and prosperity for him and his family. Representatives from various Brazilian Islamic organizations were also present at the gathering.

Roberto Carlos is widely regarded as one of the greatest left-backs in football history. He spent the majority of his illustrious club career with Real Madrid and later joined Turkish club Fenerbahçe in 2007.

However, Carlos has not yet officially confirmed these reports of his conversion.

Prominent Figures and Athletes Embracing Islam Over the Past Two Decades

Over the past twenty years, several high-profile athletes, celebrities, and public figures worldwide have chosen to embrace Islam, drawing widespread global attention.

While conversion is a deeply personal and spiritual journey, public figures doing so often spark broad cultural conversations about faith, identity, and personal transformation.

In the world of sports, athletes from diverse backgrounds have frequently found solace, discipline, and community within Islamic teachings.

Over the last two decades, notable sports stars, martial artists, and international athletes have openly shared their transitions to Islam.

These announcements often highlight how Islamic values of humility, brotherhood, inner peace, and structured discipline resonated with them during or after their rigorous professional careers.

Beyond football and traditional sports, public figures in entertainment, literature, and politics have also made headlines by adopting the faith.

These transitions are frequently facilitated by personal relationships, philosophical exploration, or deep interactions with local Muslim communities and scholars.

While some athletes immediately share their new spiritual path with fans, others choose a more private approach, only for news to surface later through community leaders or associates, much like the recent reports surrounding Roberto Carlos.

Ultimately, these stories reflect a global tapestry of spiritual seeking.
