Red Zone closure forces work-from-home across federal offices in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: All ministries, divisions, and federal institutions located in Islamabad’s Red Zone have been directed to observe a work-from-home policy today.

In this regard, as per the notification released by Cabinet Division, all officers and staff members have been advised to remain within the city and stay available for duty if required.

The directive comes in response to the closure of the Red Zone, which has disrupted normal administrative and judicial operations in the federal capital.

In a related development, judicial proceedings at the Federal Constitutional Court have been suspended for the day. An official statement from the court confirmed that hearings scheduled in Islamabad will not take place due to restricted access to the Red Zone.

The decision was made on the instructions of the Chief Justice, declaring a one-day judicial holiday.

Furthermore, the cause list for April 21 has been cancelled. Despite the suspension of in-person proceedings, court staff will continue to perform their duties remotely.

Separately, the Islamabad High Court has also announced its closure for April 21. According to the Registrar’s office, the decision was taken in light of the Red Zone shutdown, which has made access to court premises difficult for both staff and litigants.

The temporary shift to remote working and closure of courts highlights the broader impact of the Red Zone restrictions on governance and legal processes in the capital. Authorities have emphasized continuity of essential services through alternative arrangements, ensuring that administrative and judicial functions remain operational despite the disruption.
