Donald Trump has indicated a possible extension of the ongoing ceasefire with Iran, raising cautious expectations while maintaining a firm stance on negotiations. The temporary truce, initially scheduled to expire at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time on April 21, has been a focal point in recent diplomatic efforts between the two nations.
President Trump stated that the ceasefire is now expected to remain in place until “Wednesday evening Washington time,” suggesting a short extension beyond the original deadline. However, the president focused on that any further continuation of the truce would depend heavily on progress in negotiations.
“It’s highly unlikely that I’d extend it,” Trump reportedly said, underlining the conditional nature of the extension.
The ceasefire has been viewed as a critical window for dialogue aimed at reducing hostilities and addressing longstanding disputes between the United States and Iran.
As the revised deadline approaches, global attention remains fixed on Washington and Tehran. Whether the ceasefire will lead to a more lasting agreement or give way to renewed conflict depends largely on the outcome of these high-stakes discussions.
