Quetta Acid Attack: Doctors Share Latest on Dr Mahnoor’s Condition

KARACHI: The first surgery of Dr Mahnoor, a doctor injured in an acid attack in Quetta, has been successfully completed at a private hospital in Karachi, her family said on Wednesday.

Doctors removed dead skin from the affected areas during the procedure.

According to the family, her condition has improved after the surgery. However, doctors said the risk of infection remains due to severe burn injuries. She has been placed in isolation as a precaution.

The family said a series of staged surgeries will be carried out. These include removal of damaged skin and subsequent skin grafting procedures.

The first operation lasted more than eight hours and was conducted on Tuesday.

Hospital sources said plastic surgeons completed minor grafting on the patient’s face. They added that no major surgery was performed at this stage.

Doctors said the patient is being closely monitored. They said further treatment will be provided as required.

Sources said Dr Mahnoor underwent a third comprehensive medical assessment. The review included plastic surgeons as well as eye specialists.

Multiple medical tests were also conducted during the examination.
