PTI Suspends MNA Iqbal Afridi Over Adiala Jail Conduct

ISLAMABAD : The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has suspended the parliamentary party membership of Member of National Assembly Iqbal Khan Afridi and formally demanded his expulsion from the party, following what it termed “inappropriate and condemnable behavior” during a recent delegation visit to party founder Imran Khan in Adiala Jail.

The decision was taken during a special parliamentary party meeting chaired by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Wednesday, convened to review parliamentary affairs and party discipline in the wake of the National Assembly’s budget session.

According to an official statement issued by the party, the meeting thoroughly discussed an incident involving a delegation’s visit to the imprisoned I ran Members strongly condemned Afridi’s conduct toward fellow party leader Sahibzada Sibghatullah, declaring his behavior unacceptable and a violation of party decorum.

The statement noted that participants also raised past complaints against Afridi, leading to a unanimous resolution suspending his parliamentary party membership. The parliamentary body went a step further, calling on the party leadership to expel Afridi from the PTI altogether.

“PTI expects its members to adhere to parliamentary traditions and discipline,” the statement read, adding that “no behavior against the party’s dignity, unity and democratic values can be allowed.” The party reiterated that there would be “no compromise on mutual respect and organizational discipline.”

The move signals heightened internal scrutiny within PTI as it navigates a contentious budget session and ongoing legal challenges facing its founder. Afridi has not yet issued a public response to the suspension.
