ISLAMABAD : The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) confirmed on Friday that internet services across the country are experiencing significant disruptions due to a technical fault in the SEA-ME-WE 5 (SMW-5) international submarine cable system.
In an official statement, the PTA acknowledged that users may face intermittent degradation in service quality and connectivity as a result of the cable fault. The authority assured the public that it is actively monitoring the situation.
Trans World Associates (TWA), the operator responsible for the affected segment, is currently working in coordination with the SMW-5 consortium to identify the root cause of the fault and establish a timeline for full restoration. Meanwhile, the PTA stated that internet traffic is being rerouted through alternative international connections to minimize service disruption.
The authority emphasized that it remains in constant contact with all relevant stakeholders and is closely monitoring the situation to ensure complete restoration of internet services nationwide at the earliest possible time.
