ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said indirect talks between the United States and Iran made positive progress during a new round of mediation in Doha by Qatari and Pakistani officials.
In a statement, the ministry said Qatari and Pakistani mediators held separate meetings with the U.S. and Iranian negotiating teams.
The discussions focused on issues related to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, the ministry said. It did not disclose further details.
The ministry said the latest discussions built on progress achieved at the Lake Lucerne summit. Both sides agreed to continue negotiations and hold another round of talks as soon as possible.
According to the statement, the next meeting will take place after the completion of funeral ceremonies for Iran’s former supreme leader.
Pakistan described the development as an important step in ongoing diplomatic engagement between Washington and Tehran.
Earlier, Qatar also announced progress in the indirect negotiations between the United States and Iran.
According to Iranian media, Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al Ansari said Qatari and Pakistani mediators met separately with US and Iranian delegations in Doha on Wednesday.
In a post on X, Al Ansari said the latest discussions advanced the outcomes of the Lake Lucerne summit. He added that all parties agreed to resume negotiations immediately after the funeral ceremonies for Iran’s former supreme leader.
Separately, Iranian media reported that the main funeral and burial ceremonies for the former supreme leader will take place in Qom on July 7.
Funeral prayers are scheduled for 5:00 a.m. local time and will be led by a senior Shiite cleric, the reports said.
US President Donald Trump, meanwhile, said efforts to ensure Iran remains free of nuclear weapons were progressing well.
