Balochistan Prisons Overcrowded and Understaffed

QUETTA: Balochistan prison authorities have released a detailed report highlighting the poor conditions within the province’s jail system.

According to the report, three prisons including the facilities in Gadani and Dera Murad Jamali are severely overcrowded, holding inmates well beyond their designated capacity.

Furthermore, the authorities revealed a critical shortage of medical staff across 12 prisons in the province, which are currently operating with only 40 percent of the required medical personnel.

Jails in several cities, including Sibi and Loralai, do not have a single Medical Superintendent appointed.

In light of growing security concerns and the heightened risk of epidemic outbreaks, prison authorities have urgently called for an increase in the number of operational jails and the immediate fulfillment of medical staff vacancies.
