ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatwave warning for several regions of the country, forecasting significantly above-normal temperatures from June 7 to June 12 and urging the public to take precautionary measures against extreme weather conditions.
In this regard, temperatures in various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan are expected to rise considerably during the forecast period.
The department warned that daytime temperatures in many areas could remain four to six degrees Celsius above normal levels.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, districts including Peshawar, Mardan, Bannu, Karak, Lakki Marwat and Dera Ismail Khan are expected to experience temperatures ranging between 41°C and 46°C from June 8 to 11.
In this sense, Northern districts such as Chitral, Dir and Swat, along with Gilgit-Baltistan, are likely to record temperatures between 37°C and 40°C from June 8 to 10.
The PMD stated that temperatures in Islamabad and adjoining areas, including Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum and Gujrat, could reach between 41°C and 44°C.
Meanwhile, several districts of Punjab are expected to witness temperatures ranging from 44°C to 48°C between June 8 and 11.
Sindh and parts of Balochistan are likely to experience the most intense heat, with temperatures forecast to range between 48°C and 51°C in districts such as Jacobabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, Sibi, Turbat and Panjgur from June 7 to 12.
Karachi is also expected to remain under hot weather conditions, with temperatures likely to reach between 40°C and 43°C.
The PMD noted that night temperatures are also expected to remain above normal during the period. The department further warned that dust storms may occur in parts of southern Punjab and Sindh due to prevailing hot and dry conditions.
