ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday welcomed the ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel, calling it an important step toward lasting peace in the region.
He said Pakistan supports all efforts aimed at achieving stability in the Middle East. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s backing for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Sharif praised diplomatic efforts led by US President Donald Trump, saying they played a key role in reaching the agreement. He said the ceasefire offers a hopeful opportunity for durable peace.

Separately, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres also welcomed the ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel. He described it as a positive step toward reducing regional tensions.
Guterres said the ceasefire could help end immediate hostilities. He added that it could also pave the way for a broader and more lasting peace framework.
He urged all parties to fully implement the agreement. He called on them to respect international law and ensure strict compliance with the ceasefire terms.
Both Pakistan and the United Nations stressed that sustained adherence to the agreement is essential for regional stability.
