ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Japan have agreed to further enhance bilateral cooperation in the petroleum sector, specifically focusing on geosciences and mineral research.
The agreement was reached during a meeting at the Geological Survey of Pakistan, where Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik welcomed the Japanese Ambassador, Akamatsu Shuichi.
The two sides reviewed the ongoing long-term scientific collaboration between Pakistan and Japan in mineral research. Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik highlighted that the establishment of the Geoscience Advanced Research Laboratories, supported by Japan and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), stands as a major milestone in their bilateral relations.
The Minister emphasized that Pakistan is modernizing its mineral sector by replacing traditional methods with advanced technology to optimize the exploration and development of mineral resources. During the visit, a documentary showcasing the history, evolution, and advanced capabilities of the Geoscience Advanced Research Laboratory was also screened.
Expressing Japan’s strong interest in promoting technical cooperation and scientific exchanges, Ambassador Akamatsu Shuichi commended Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen its scientific infrastructure.
Both nations resolved to expand future bilateral cooperation to upgrade technical capacity, laboratory methodologies, and expertise in geosciences. The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Petroleum Division, the Geological Survey of Pakistan, the Japanese Embassy, and JICA.
