Hope Ignited for Pak-Iran Gas Pipeline

Islamabad: In a major positive development linked to a reported US-Iran breakthrough, hope has been rekindled for the revival of the long-delayed Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project.

According to a private TV channel, the potential lifting of international sanctions on Iran following a peace agreement with the US is set to bring massive economic benefits to Pakistan.

This breakthrough is expected to pave the way for the resumption of the Pak-Iran gas pipeline, finally allowing Pakistan to achieve its decades-old goal of importing affordable gas from its neighbor.

Sources indicate that both nations have already agreed to the final terms of the peace accord, which is scheduled to be officially signed on June 19 in Switzerland.

Pakistan reportedly played a pivotal role behind the scenes, utilizing round-the-clock diplomatic efforts to bring both sides to the negotiating table.

Under the terms of the agreement, the US has agreed to unfreeze billions of dollars in Iranian assets and signal the opening of international trade routes for Iran, including the crucial oil and gas sectors.

Consequently, Pakistan will be positioned to resurrect and finally benefit from the multi-billion-dollar gas pipeline project, which was originally initiated in 2008 during the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) government.
